Wandering Souls

The Wandering Souls inhabit the realm of Scarlet Crusade on the world of Azeroth. This motley band of disparate characters strive to improve their lot in life, or the afterlife (depending on whether you are an undead or not), and that of their guildmates.

First Official Guild Meeting

We had a nice large turnout for the first official guild meeting of the Wandering Souls last night. The topics discussed, at least from the mental notes that I took, are as follows:

  • Charter
  • Web site
  • Chat Etiquette
  • Meeting Schedule

I will cover each topic along with a little background or comments of my own. Hopefully, I don’t stray too far from what was actually discussed and agreed on. Let me know with a comment if you think I’m off base.

Our original charter, mission statement, goal or whatever you want to call it was that we were a loose organization of sociable individuals that wanted to chat, help each other out with professions and quests and in general add to our enjoyment of the game. The overriding theme of guild organization, including officer responsibilities, was that "less" is "more". Personally, I really don't want running the guild to turn into a job for anybody. I can't see that this would be very fun! However, if anybody wants to develop a role for themselves, I don't see why they can't take the ball and run with it. Just don't get too frustrated if participation is not as high as you had hoped. When people were asked at the meeting, "What they would like from the guild?", the overwhelming response was more raid/party events. To aid in this endeavor, we will utilize the event scheduler on the website that is discussed below. Raid events, in particular is also something that Ikavi has lobbied hard for and she and one of the members from an affiliated guild (Ambrosius) is looking at setting up an inter-guild raid planning website. I'll let you know if anything comes of this.

Web Site
This blog site was originally used for our online presence, because A) it was something that I was comfortable with and would maintain and B) it was free. However, it does not have some of the features (at least with my limited web programming capabilities) that would be nice to have such as a calendar, roster, forums, etc... To remedy this, Jodmos has set up a “free” guildportal site that has these features. To find it, you must browse to http://www.guildportal.com/ and place “Scarlet Souls” in the search box at left. You should see the guild listed under World of Warcraft and Scarlet Crusade. Just apply for membership and within the day or two, you’ll be approved. I’ll try to cross-post some stuff to the blog, which I think in the future will focus almost entirely on RP style material which is what I have fun with. Incidently, send an email to atohne@gmail.com if you’d like to post material to the Blog. I’d encourage you to.

Chat Etiquette
People should remain courteous and respectful at all times. Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. That’s why Eatem and I joined a guild in the first place. The “general” chat was horrible much of the time. I haven’t even had it turned on in six months. So, as we get more and more members, this becomes very important! In addition, many of our members have young children who might be able to read offensive language, especially if the profanity filter is turned off. So control those fingers, if you can! In addition, most of us don’t like the shorthand chat or acronyms except for a few such as LOL, ROFL, OMW and BRB. We might have a post on the website for what’s acceptable. Don’t be lazy people, type words out so we don’t have to decipher stuff. In addition, don’t yell in guild chat with all caps unless it’s something that is extremely important. Officers should also take some responsibility and remind people if things get out of control.

Meeting Schedule
The last item discussed was “Do we want to have guild meetings?” The consensus was yes, we want meetings. But let’s not have too much of a good thing! Once a month, is adequate. However, we decided on the first Thursday of the month at 9 PM server time and we will have a meeting next week to talk about the web site and a few other “hot” topics.

I really only have one complaint. Well several actually, but only one comes immediately to mind. I think Eatem did an especially lousy job of catering the food for the guild meeting. The snacks showed up looking far too festive and ill-prepared. They were wandering all over the meeting area and tended to scream or whine when stabbed with a fork. It wasn't until Dranlu processed the snacks with his infernal that we were able to spread them out on some crackers with a little Alterac cheese. Yummmy! However, I still think Gwur should be in charge of the snacks for the next meeting.

Guild Meeting

With the addition of a horde (pardon the pun) of new personnel from the Dungeoneers, we thought it might be a good time to hold a guild meeting to meet and greet each other, discuss the guild, it's charter, rules, organization and what the future might hold.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 9 PM server time. That gives Eatem a few days to remind me about whether we actually have rules or organization. The place will be at the location from which the photo was taken in the previous post. I'll provide a hint to you and tell you that it is within a five minute walk of Orgrimmar. However, the meeting discussion will probably be held in guild chat unless everybody is actually present.

Andawan, Eatem and I will probably come up with some type of agenda. But the only item I have thought of so far, is the last item for discussion. Which is:
Do we want to have guild meetings?

Where's This?

Photo Challenge...

The first person to tell me where this photo was taken, gets a prize!
So, put those walking shoes on and figure it out!

Rules and regulations: Jezalia is not allowed to participate in this challenge as she was present or at least should have been present if she hadn't gotten impatient and ran off while I was trying to figure out the proper exposure and focal length for this photo.

Welcome Dungeoneers !!!

Kiyotimun became the first Dungeoneer to cross over to the Wandering Souls and according to their guildmaster Bossakula, more will follow over the next few days. I'd like everybody to be especially supportive and welcome them warmly. I'm sure they could use an extra boost after leaving a guild that they put a lot of effort into starting and running!

The Dungeoneers have some great people and with them joining forces with us, it should make it easier for us to accomplish some of the high endgame content in the world of Azeroth!

Jodmos and Kiyotimun shall be officers in our guild and shall assist Bossakula in extending invitations to whomever of the Dungeoneers wish to make the move to Wandering Souls. I'm sure they will make a quick announcement before extending an invite and bringing a Dungeoneer on board. So, keep an eye out and say "Hello."

Again... Welcome Dungeoneers.

We look forward to questing or battling alongside you!

Merry Madness

Working closely with the brilliant, but stark raving mad, alchemists from the undercity and with DNA samples obtained from "The Greench", Eatem and I have helped to create a massive herd of evil reindeer clones. These reindeer, when seen individually, appear to be the cute and friendly animal that Alliance children have known and loved for generations! They even have heard bedtime stories of this cute little guy leading Santa's sleigh through treacherous storms to bring them little packages of gnomish (or was it elvish?) gadgets and gizmos for their play.

The little alliance tykes are in for one horrific surprise. These evil reindeer clones only appear cute and cuddly so that the little Alliance monsters will approach for kisses and hugs! Which turn these beasts into blind raging killing machines!

I've never looked forward to Christmas with as much joy and anticipation and I hope yours will be fun as well!

Happy Holidays!

Guild Update!

Wow, it's been a while. Well, two main things to cover:

- More guild-to-guild interaction! Ambrosius has joined us in the Wanderlust chat channel (along with the Dungeoneers). Definitely keep using the chat to get high level groups going. I know you all want Andawan in you groups (honestly, who wouldn't?) but sometimes we all have to settle.

- New guildmaster! Atohne and Eatem celebrate the holidays (as do most of us), and are taking some time off (so they say...) So Andawan now has all the powers (many, many powers) that Guildmaster gets him! Be wary, he gets.....out of control with power (just ask Peon Atohne).

All that said, have some great holidays! Greatfather Winter seemed confused when Andawan explained he had never trained cooking, and thus couldn't provide cookies.

Encountering someone in an instance run that took the game far too serious, made me reflect upon my own playstyle and the amount of time that Eatem and I have spent playing Warcraft over the last twelve months or so.

The holidays are approaching and we need to make this time special for our kids. Work committments and trips to see my father, who has been hospitalized since before Thanksgiving, is also taking a toll on time that I might spend in Azeroth. But, as I must remind myself, Warcraft is "JUST A GAME" and real-life must take priority. So, we will be cutting back our play hours.

Andawan is going to fill in for me as guild master and give me a bit of a break. However, Eatem and I still hope to see you guys and will probably play every other night or so after the kids go to bed at about 10 pm server time. During our vacation, I might also spend some time seeing the sights around Azeroth. Such as this photo of a late night swim in the sea near Booty Bay. I'll post photos from our travels.

For the Horde!
